Throughout the years, the restaurant was successful in doing that, becoming one of Greater Cleveland’s most-known eateries. It truly was, as its slogan suggested, “a place people meet.”
“In 2006, USA Today recognized Corky & Lenny’s as one of the top 10 places for “authentic Jewish food.”
After travelling from Rochester for follow up work at the Cleveland Clinic, they try to have what Laspina said is “the best corned beef I’ve ever had.”

Clevelanders have had it pretty good when it comes to delis like Jack’s, Slyman’s and Larder, but Corky & Lenny’s was something special.
The Story of Cleveland’s Iconic Deli
Corky and Lenny’s, a beloved restaurant in Cleveland for 67 years, unfortunately closed its doors last year. Founded in 1956 by Sanford “Corky” Kurland and Lenny Kaden, the deli served Eastern European and American dishes, including towering corned beef sandwiches, giant pickles, and matzo ball soup. It was more than just a restaurant. Corky and Lenny’s became a regional institution where families dined, relationships were formed, and entrepreneurs made deals. The restaurant was frequented by celebrities like Shaquille O’Neal, Sammy Davis Jr., Chubby Checker, Milton Berle and David Letterman.
However, the economic downturn caused by the pandemic contributed to the closure of this community staple.
We’ll look back at this iconic Jewish deli, share customers’ memorable stories, and spotlight owners Kenny, Amanda, and the iconic Gloria Kurland. This is their story.
