The United Black Fund of Greater Cleveland had a straightforward goal for their 2019/2020 Annual Report and that was to create an engaging, interactive ebook that would house both custom woodcut illustrations and quick animations for each of this year’s honorees.
To accomplish this, UBF’s Executive President, Cecil Lipscomb and 4th Quarter’s Michelle Fairfax engaged MadWerkz in the task of producing their annual report and telling their story.
“Our project request had several different moving parts to it. We needed multiple illustrations and animations produced along with an annual report design for an interactive eBook. MadWerkz stepped up and met our needs.”
– Michelle Fairfax, 4th Quarter President
The first portion of the project was to create 18 original animations that were 20 seconds in length each. Some of these animations would be inserted into their Annual Report while the remaining animations would be showcased during their Annual Meeting to their supporters and team members.
After presenting several options to the client, they decided that the 20 unique backgrounds were be designed in the Woodcut art style. The main characters for each animation were based on UBF’s honorees this year so the characters were designed using a hyper realistic, illustration style while the supporting characters were produced in a more simplistic art manner.
“One problem that arose early on during the project was choosing the right colors. The client expressed that they were interested in 2 color schemes. We addressed this by choosing complimentary colors that matched what they needed. “
– Anthony Connor, MadWerkz Designer
Moving on to the Annual Report, MadWerkz designer Anthony Connor worked alongside the client to produce the Annual Report Cover which sported a diverse color scheme of blues, yellows and oranges. One that would drive the look and feel for the entire report.
The final step was taking the finished annual report and converting it into a interactive flipbook that would be housed on the client’s website for all of their supporters, members and future prospective to see.
“MadWerkz’s work is simply a work of art! People absolutely love the Report. We appreciate their professionalism and we’re thankful to have MadWerkz as partners.”
– Cecil Lipscomb, UBF Executive President
The end result was a unique experience for their readers. Starting with the journey of Noah and moving into the future, the United Black Fund’s Annual Report has an important story to tell.
